To start a mediation you will need to agree to go to mediation with the other party and then contact CEDR to start the mediation.
There are several routes that may have led you to start a mediation.
You may have:
- Agreed to go to mediation with another party
- Been ordered or encouraged to go to mediation by a judge
- Been referred to mediation by a clause in a contract with another party if there is a dispute
- Been referred to mediation by a scheme (for example the NHS mediation scheme)
Whatever route, when you are ready to go to mediation, you will need to contact an organisation like CEDR to arrange a mediation. You can contact CEDR’s mediation team at adr@cedr.com or by calling CEDR on 020 7526 6060.
CEDR’s team will talk you through the options and how the mediation process works. They can also make recommendations of mediators for you to select.
The CEDR team will ask if you have agreement to mediate with the other party. The other party will need to agree to mediate before a mediator can be selected. Once both parties have agreed to mediate, a mediator can be selected and a date and fees confirmed for the mediation. The mediator will contact the parties after this has been agreed to begin working with the parties.
